A story about thedaniel
The Daniel is Micki’s purse.
Mike likes to act all hard but he ain’t fooling anybody. He’s such a damn softie. And I love him.
It was one of the last nights at SXSW this year, and I met him briefly at the Odeo/Consumating/Adaptive Path party. I highly doubt he remembers me, but he was super nice and gave me a nifty, and wooden!, free drink token which I didn’t end up using.
I mean I’ve met him – I’ve been in the same room with him and we even lend each other books and stuff sometimes (by the way, I want my book back) – but I want to really MEET him, you know. It’s like “Hey, Mike, take off that neighborhoodie and stay a while.”
I met her at a New Years party. She was drunk and passed out on the couch. I took pictures of her and carefully cut out the heads and pasted them into a Home Depot catalog that I carry everwhere. On page 165 she is operating a band saw with her eyes closed and she’s drooling just a little bit. It’s very unsafe and unhealthy.
I’ve never seen her again.
There’s a possibility I was drunk and it was New Years, and all I could formulate was, “You’re that man with that child.”
Then I fell asleep on the couch, but 9 or 10 months later we had another conversation.
Erik tagged me a “ferret hater”. which is just not true. I love ferrets. It’s just that Erik was considering getting a ferret and I pointed out that their over-active sweat glands make them stinky. They also make nasty poop. I suggested a hedgehog instead. They are cute and curl into a ball. Then you can roll them like katamari.
Mike and I met in “art school” in Texas. He was pushing the limits of what kind of media could be used to get a graduate degree in painting and I was just trying keep my welds from falling apart.
After art school we both went into graphic design, eventually working togther on a series of album covers for Trance Syndicate Records, then later he generously shared his home office and DSL connection with me while I freelanced for a while.
We’ve stayed in touch since we both left Texas, and he recently invited me to come with him and some friends to Burning Man, which turned out to be even better than I had hoped.
He is a good egg.
